Marco's Pizza Honors Youngstown, OH Native, Military Veteran With Pizza Party for His Troops in SC for Memorial Day

YOUNGSTOWN, OH--(Marketwire - May 22, 2008) - Marco's Pizza, founded in Toledo, OH 30 years ago, will honor a Youngstown native, Marco's fan, Marine and Army veteran and current member of the National Guard, Sgt. Tom Junkin who recently returned from Afghanistan, with a pizza party for 100 of his troops and friends now living in Summerville, SC for the Memorial Day Holiday.

The Marco's Pizza military pizza odyssey began late last year when Susan Huffman, now a resident of Mansfield, OH and a friend of Junkin's mother Irene, wanted to thank Junkin for his military service and years of community service to the Canfield Fair, near Youngstown, when Junkin was a Boy Scout.

"My original idea was to see if we could ship Marco's Pizza to Tom when he was stationed in Afghanistan," Huffman explained. "But the logistics were insurmountable, so we decided to wait until Tom and his unit returned to the United States. Marco's was more than willing to help out."

Dave Elmore, a Marco's Pizza operations expert, was ready to help out so he shipped Marco's Pizza ingredients to feed 100 persons to Junkin, who will in turn assemble and bake the pies for the his troops and friends for the Memorial Day Holiday.

"It is our way of saying 'thanks,'" Elmore said.

Home of the Ah! Thentic Italian Pizza, Marco's Pizza is currently located in 16 United States with 170 units and a goal to have 500 stores by 2010 and to open 50 units this year. Additional information is available at www.marcos.com.
