Greg Sinaiko, Founder of The Coding Source, Receives Inaugural EMPH Entrepreneur Award From UCLA School of Public Health

President and CEO of Fast-Growing Provider of Medical Coding Services Selected as First Winner of Annual Award for Alumni of UCLA's EMPH Program

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - May 28, 2008) - Gregory Sinaiko, founder and CEO of The Coding Source, was honored last week as the inaugural recipient of the EMPH Entrepreneur Award, a new annual award that recognizes a member of the UCLA School of Public Health's Executive Master of Public Health (EMPH) Program for her/his innovation and foresight in addressing a need in healthcare management or policy.

Sinaiko, a 2001 graduate of UCLA's EMPH Program in Healthcare Management & Policy, founded The Coding Source in 2002 in response to the critical shortage and urgent need in the healthcare marketplace for qualified, certified medical coders. His vision quickly found success and the company now offers outsourced medical coding services, training of professional coders, Certified Professional Coder (CPC) educational programs, and temporary placement of medical coders at healthcare organizations. Last fall, the company ranked second on the Los Angeles Business Journal's list of Fastest Growing Private Companies in Los Angeles.

As a component of their curriculum, students in the EMPH Program develop various types of business plans -- both for-profit and not-for-profit. A majority of these ideas are implemented into successful ventures that make positive impacts on the delivery of health services in the U.S. Sinaiko's work in building The Coding Source was recognized for its success in increasing the quality of patient care, as well as improvements in financial and risk management for healthcare organizations.

"This award is intended to recognize students and graduates of our program who have gone into the healthcare marketplace and made a positive impact in the process or outcome of healthcare, be it in public health, healthcare management, pharmaceutical distribution or some other field," said Fred Hagigi, DrPH, MBA, MPH, Director of UCLA Executive Education Programs in Healthcare Management & Policy in the School of Public Health. "I'm delighted that Greg was the first recipient of this award because his efforts with building The Coding Source from a simple idea into a dynamic, successful enterprise have blazed a trail for future graduates to follow."

UCLA's two-year EMPH Program offers an MPH degree that is uniquely designed for today's complex healthcare and competitive business environment. The program offers a real-life, comprehensive business and policy education tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals without the necessity of giving up full-time job responsibilities.

"As a proud graduate of UCLA's EMPH program, I'm very honored to receive this inaugural entrepreneur award and accept it on behalf of the wonderful team of medical coders, business managers and other executives who have helped make The Coding Source a great success," said Sinaiko. "I look forward to staying connected to the UCLA School of Public Health and helping encourage other students in the EMPH program to turn their bright ideas into viable businesses that improve the way healthcare services are delivered in the U.S."
