The power situation in Norway as of 18 June 2008

Lysaker, 18 June 2008
Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Reservoirs and inflow above normal level so far this year
The level of the Norwegian reservoirs has increased for seven weeks running and was 68.9 percent at the end of week 24. This is 14 percentage points above normal. The reservoir level increased by 4.3 percentage points during week 24. There have been large quantities of snow throughout the winter and springtime. A lot of the snow has now melted, and the remaining quantities of snow are a little less than the median level of the week.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 5.9 TWh in week 24. That is five percentage points below normal. So far this year the inflow has been about 60 TWh, or 10 TWh more than normal.

The high inflow has contributed to high Norwegian hydro power production. So far in 2008 the production is 64.9 TWh. That is 2.5 TWh more than in the same period last year. About 75 percent of the production has been in Soutern-Norway. The Norwegian net export is 4.8 TWh so far this year. That is an increase of 3.2 TWh compared with last year. The limitations of the export capacity out of Southern-Norway have moderated the Norwegian export.
