The power situation in Norway as of 2 July 2008

Lysaker, 2 July 2008

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

High Norwegian net export in June

The Norwegian net export of power was 1.7 TWh in June. That is 34 percent more than in June 2007. The power exchange with the Netherlands through the NorNed cable has contributed to keeping the export at a high level despite the reduced export capacity from Norway to Sweden and Denmark.

So far this year the Norwegian net export has been 5.6 TWh, an increase of 3.5 TWh from last year. The biggest increase has taken place in Southern Norway, where the net export so far this year has been 6.2 TWh. The net import to Middle Norway has been 2.3 TWh, while Northern Norway has had a net export of 1.8 TWh. High hydro power production in Southern and Northern Norway has contributed to the high net export. The production in Norway so far this year has been 72.4 TWh, an increase of 5.5 TWh from last year.

The level of the Norwegian reservoirs increased by 2.6 percentage points in week 26, and was 75.1 percent by the end of the week. The reservoir level was 7.6 percentage points above the median level for the week, and 1.7 percentage points over the 2007 level.
