System) announced today that Rahul Koranne, MD, MBA, FACP, has expanded his
role and responsibilities as its medical director.
Dr. Koranne has assumed strategic guidance in the development and delivery
of clinical quality initiatives for Bethesda medical staff, handling all
levels of inpatient and outpatient care. His long-term goal is to form
centers of excellence across the hospital's broad range of services
including brain injury rehabilitation, Alzheimer's and dementia care,
Parkinson's disease management and complex medical programming.
Dr. Koranne has also joined a team of HealthEast leaders to work on an
essential care navigation project, which will be designed to significantly
improve the transitional experience of older patients as they move along
the continuum of care.
Over the past year, Dr. Koranne has successfully managed a number of
hospital projects including medication reconciliation, patient handoff
processes and electronic health record (EHR) implementation. These areas
are seen as key contributors to the hospital's commitment to improved
quality performance and increased patient satisfaction.
"Our entire team has renewed its dedication to providing world-class health
care that will make us the benchmark for quality by 2010," said Koranne.
"Bethesda's tradition of working proactively on issues of quality and of
thinking outside of the box to produce and offer unique patient/family
programs makes me excited to come to work every day."
Dr. Koranne completed his geriatrics fellowship at the University of
Minnesota, working at Bethesda Hospital in geriatric care under the
direction of Dr. Alvin Holm. Following several years in private practice,
Dr. Koranne returned to HealthEast. A graduate of the University of Delhi
Medical School, he recently earned his Master of Business Administration
from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
