About the Author
Shed Byrd was born in Brandon, Mississippi. He is the fourth of eight children and grew up in Leland, Mississippi where he attended his first years of school. Byrd had his first work experiences, laboring in the cotton fields, delivering newspapers and shining shoes. In 1953, the author moved to Gary, Indiana where he graduated from high School. In 1957 he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and joined the U.S. Navy in 1959. Byrd retired from the Navy in 1978 and from the civil service in 2000. He is married and has two children.
