The Future of Z-Wave
While the Z-Wave Alliance dominates the competition in home control and
access control, it continues to rapidly grow its member base as well. This
year, the Alliance has welcomed more than 20 new members whose expertise
run the gamut from roof window manufacturing to software designers
specializing in smartphone applications, including: Audiovox, Tools &
Solutions, Marten Renz, Beagle Data, BeNeXt, DSC, Maintronic, Blue Cell,
Adconidis, NorthQ, Beaumotica, Media Runway, ICT Embedded, Black & Decker,
Chamberlain, FAKRO, Ingersoll Rand, Lantic, Panasonic, Somfy, and Westell.
To help sustain and capitalize on this growth, the Z-Wave Alliance recently
held two Developers Forums and Unplug Fests -- one in Amsterdam and the
other in Fremont, California. The Developers Forums provide a medium for
Alliance members to discuss the latest advances in Z-Wave technology, while
the Unplug Fests consist of a day of interoperability testing. These
meetings were attended by more than 25 companies representing 50 new
products. The informal two-day events brought together technology-savvy
Alliance members and engineers to gather and exchange knowledge, and to
interact with their fellow Z-Wave developers.
Looking ahead, the Z-Wave Alliance will be the founding sponsor of the
Green Tech Zone at the EHX Fall Expo, being held November 4-7 in Long
Beach, California. The first-of-its-kind Green Tech Zone will showcase
commercially available and new-to-market products that monitor and control
energy consumption in the home. Z-Wave has a significant advantage over
other technologies attempting to infiltrate this market due to its ubiquity
in the home. Z-Wave Alliance members will be on hand to demonstrate
complete, real-world solutions for home energy conservation, including
smart metering, consumer notification and automated load shedding.
