The Executive Board of RWE Aktiengesellschaft decided today that the
prospective increase in the dividend payout ratio will no longer depend on
the successful placement of a majority of shares in American Water. The
dividend proposal of the Executive Board for fiscal 2008 will thus be based
on a payout ratio of 70-80% of recurrent net income, irrespective of the
deconsolidation of American Water.

RWE still intends to place a majority of shares in American Water by the
end of the year.
