Sweco awarded another significant hydropower assignment in Laos

Hydropower experts within Sweco have been contracted as the Owners Engineer
during the implementation of the Theun Hinboun Expansion project, in central Lao
PDR. The assignment is estimated to be worth more than 5 million Euros.


- The building of new hydropower schemes around the world has been booming since
the year 2000. Sweco is maintaining our position as one of the most respected
engineering consulting companies in this market, states Sweco's Team Leader Mr.
Lennart Lundberg.

In June 2006 Sweco was assigned to perform the Feasibility Study and Tender
Document for the expansion project. The new assignment as the Owners Engineer
includes Design Review, Contract Management, and Construction Supervision during
the implementation phase. The Assignment is being performed for the Client,
Theun Hinboun Power Corporation (THPC).

The fiscal Project primarily includes a 70 metre high Roller Compacted Concrete
Dam (RCC), a 6 kilometre long and TBM driven Headrace Tunnel, two separate Power
Stations (220 MW and 60 MW) and two separate Transmission Lines, one connecting
to the Thai grid and one connecting to the local Lao grid.

Expertise to be provided from Sweco's engineers includes all traditional
hydropower engineering disciplines such as civil & structural engineering,
hydrology, geology, geo-technology, dam engineering, mechanical engineering,
turbine engineering, electrical engineering including transmission, and
distribution.
