Kratos Defense & Security Solutions to Participate in Community Response Exercise in Hawaii by Demonstrating Homeland Security Product, Vigilys

Hawaii State Civil Defense Conducting Simulation on Friday, October 10

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 10, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading national defense, information technology and homeland security solutions provider, today announced that it will participate in a community exercise being conducted by the Hawaii State Civil Defense on Friday, October 10, 2008. The objective of the exercise is to demonstrate the state's level of disaster preparedness, with participation from all major emergency response agencies and several city and government agencies within the municipalities of Honolulu and Waikiki. As part of the demonstration, Kratos was invited to showcase its Vigilys product, designed to provide real-time visualization of the event and to bridge the information gap among First Responders, field personnel, and the operations center.

"First Responders today must have tactical tools in the field and the operations center which allow emergency personnel to quickly share information and collaborate in real time to realize situational awareness," said Cliff Cooke, Kratos' Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. "Good situational awareness is critical to decision-making during an incident that impacts lives and communities. We are pleased to participate in this exercise and to showcase the power of Vigilys in aggregating data for First Responders."

Vigilys is a Tactical Operations System that bridges the information gap among field personnel, and the operations center. Critical decisions impacting loss of life and property damage are made in the field during the first minutes of an incident. It is imperative for comprehensive, immediate, actionable, and relevant information to be delivered to and from the field during that critical time period for better decision-making, resource allocation and mission execution. Vigilys orchestrates and delivers real-time, incident-specific information during those first few minutes, and as an incident unfolds, for improved situational awareness and response.

Through its service oriented architecture and automated business processes, Vigilys aggregates comprehensive and relevant incident information from disparate sources, presents the information in a tactical common operating picture (TCOP), and provides tactical tools for dynamic updates. As the TCOP is updated, this information is shared in real-time among authorized users for collaboration and resource management. Vigilys can deliver the TCOP to authorized users via a web browser, and on touch screen enabled mobile or laptop computers. Real-time situational awareness is available to emergency personnel 24/7, 365 days a year.

Kratos has been participating in the Asia Pacific Homeland Security Summit as a featured speaker earlier this week. The community response exercise, being coordinated by Hawaii State Civil Defense, is being held in association with the Summit on Friday, October 10, 2008.
