Pioneer Crossing Renewable Energy Project Commissioned by Green Gas
| Source: Green Gas Americas Inc
BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwire - October 22, 2008) - Ewire -- Green Gas Americas Inc., a
subsidiary of Green Gas International B.V., announces that its USA-based
gas-to-energy project became operational on 6 October 2008. The Green Gas
Pioneer Crossing Energy project has a 6.4-megawatt (MW) capacity power
facility and the current operating permits allow an estimated 50 million
kilowatt-hours of renewable energy to be generated annually. The project is
located at the Pioneer Crossing landfill of J. P. Mascaro & Sons
("Mascaro"), in Exeter Township, Pennsylvania, USA.
The project uses gas from the Pioneer Crossing landfill, which would
normally be lost through flaring, to produce a reliable source of clean
energy, to benefit the local community, environment and landfill owners.
Construction of the gas-to-energy plant began in January 2008 using local
contractors and it is now one of the largest landfill gas projects in
Pennsylvania. This first phase of the project uses only part of the gas
resource at Pioneer Crossing and the company is applying for a permit to
access the rest of the available gas, which could enable the renewable
electricity generating capacity of the project to be doubled. Green Gas is
also working with Mascaro to develop further such projects at their Broke
County (West Virginia) and White Pines (Pennsylvania) landfills.
Joseph P. Mascaro III, Pioneer Crossing's Director of Environmental
Compliance said:
"We are delighted that gas from the Pioneer Crossing landfill is now being
put to productive use. With rising energy costs, it's especially pleasing
that the Green Gas solution provides a new source of clean energy, while
cutting greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing the safety at our landfill."
Kai Vorholz, President of Green Gas Americas, Inc. commented:
"The successful commissioning of the Green Gas Pioneer Crossing Energy
project is an important step for us in North America. We look forward to
building our relationship with J. P. Mascaro & Sons in the USA."
