NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - November 4, 2008) - Jeanie Daniel Duck, a former senior partner
with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and one of the consulting
profession's most accomplished women, has been honored with a Lifetime
Achievement Award from Consulting magazine, the industry's flagship
publication. The award was presented October 30 at a gala awards dinner at
The Waldorf-Astoria in New York.
Duck, who retired in July but continues to advise BCG and its clients, is a
world-renowned expert on change management with more than 30 years of
experience helping organizations in transition. She is also a best-selling
author: Her book "The Change Monster: The Human Forces that Fuel or Foil
Corporate Transformation and Change" (Crown Business, 2001) has been
translated into nine languages. Her Harvard Business Review article
"Managing Change: The Art of Balancing" (November-December 1993) is a
top-selling reprint and has been included in every edition of Harvard
Business Review on Change.
"Jeanie Daniel Duck is a pioneer who practically invented the discipline of
change management," Joe Kornik, editor-in-chief of Consulting magazine,
said in introducing her at the dinner. Duck was one of eight honorees at
the event, which recognized women leaders and future leaders in consulting.
When she was hired in 1998, Duck was the first person to join BCG as a
partner and the firm's first specialist. John Clarkeson, BCG's chairman
emeritus who was serving as CEO when Duck was hired, presented her with the
award.
Duck has always focused on the human side of change. She has worked with
dozens of CEOs and senior executives of major corporations in such
industries as pharmaceuticals, industrial goods, financial services, and
consumer products. She also has led the change-management aspects of many
mergers and acquisitions.
Her insights have appeared in a broad range of publications, including The
Wall Street Journal, Fortune, BusinessWeek, the Financial Times, The
Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, and Fast Company. She has written
extensively and spoken at numerous executive conferences, engaging her
audiences quickly and thoroughly with her warmth, wit, and ability to
explain complex situations in a down-to-earth manner.
In 2002, she was named one of the "Top 25 Most Influential Consultants" by
Consulting magazine. (She was ranked number two between Rudolph Giuliani
and L. Paul Bremmer, who later was put in charge of Iraq's interim
government).
Prior to joining BCG, Duck had founded a consulting firm in Minneapolis.
She has taught at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and at Pratt
Institute in New York, where she received her MS degree. She did her
undergraduate work at the University of Georgia.
"I'm delighted to receive this award," said Duck, who is based in Miami.
"It recognizes and confirms two things: That the emphasis I place on people
and emotions in times of transition is important, and that BCG was a
pioneer in developing women leaders long before others in the industry."
Indeed, Duck is the latest of several BCG women to receive honors for their
leadership and impact. Three others -- Sharon Marcil, Antonella
Mei-Pochtler, and Miki Tsusaka -- also have been named to Consulting's
annual list of the top 25 consultants. And Marcil received the magazine's
first Client Service Award last year.
