SAN DIEGO, Nov. 19, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Skylight Healthcare Systems(r), the leading provider of interactive patient care systems, announced today that it has signed a contractual agreement to install and deploy Skylight ACCESS(r) for the newest Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center opening December 29, 2008. Skylight ACCESS was selected by CTCA for its demonstrated improvements in patient satisfaction and outcomes, while enhancing the entire patient care continuum for health care professionals, patients, and their families.
CTCA was founded on the philosophy of a whole-person, patient-centered approach to cancer care. CTCA's team of cancer experts combines cancer treatments from a variety of disciplines into one integrative care plan -- to support patients in body, mind and spirit. These disciplines include naturopathy, nutrition, oncology rehabilitation, psychological counseling, spiritual support and pain management. By launching the Skylight system, Western Regional Medical Center will be able to increase the time their care team will spend providing direct patient care and improve the effectiveness of patient education efforts.
From the ground up, Skylight ACCESS will be integrated into their new 216,000-square-foot-facility. The center features patient-centered, fully-integrated cancer treatment under one roof and will include the latest evidence based design for universal inpatient rooms and surgical suites, state-of-the-art radiation therapy and infusion departments, an on-site outpatient clinic, rehabilitation therapy, and on-site "Guest Suites", which are residential accommodations for outpatients and their families.
"In addition to providing a fully integrative approach to care, we have always been at the forefront of deploying proven, state-of-the-art technologies to optimize our ability to deliver compassionate, quality care to our patients and their families," commented David Veillette, President and CEO of Western Regional Medical Center. "Utilizing the Skylight system in our extraordinary new facility in Arizona will allow CTCA to remain the only truly patient-focused, integrated cancer care model in the country."
Skylight will provide the latest tools to support their Patient Empowerment Medicine(tm) model -- a model that puts patients at the center of their care team by encouraging them to be involved in treatment decisions. With Skylight, the CTCA multidisciplinary care team will have the latest tools to educate and empower patients and their caregivers to actively and meaningfully participate in their cancer care.
"As a rapidly growing organization in the field of comprehensive cancer care, CTCA has set the standard for excellence in patient empowered medicine and satisfaction, in addition to providing a healing environment that has been recognized with multiple awards as amongst the nation's best," said David Schofield, President and CEO of Skylight. "We share their commitment to patient care and satisfaction, and we are honored to have been selected to help them achieve their mission of providing powerful and innovative therapies to heal the whole person, improve quality of life and restore hope."
