STI to Present At International Workshop On Coated Conductors for Applications On December 5, 2008


SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Nov. 24, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Superconductor Technologies Inc. (STI) (Nasdaq:SCON), a leading provider of advanced wireless solutions, innovative adaptive filtering, and world class cryogenic products for commercial and government applications, announced Dr. Brian Moeckly, Director of Materials Research and Development, will present at the 2008 International Workshop on Coated Conductors for Applications (CCA08) in Houston on Dec. 5th. The event is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston.

"High temperature superconductors (HTS) power distribution systems have the potential to become a key twenty-first century technology for improving the performance and reliability of the electricity distribution network," said Adam Shelton, STI's vice president, product management and marketing. "At CCA08, STI will participate in advancing the development of second generation high-performance, low-cost HTS coated conductors, a key enabling technology to make the promise of these next generation solutions a reality."

The overall goal of CCA08 is to establish the basic HTS coated conductors' characteristics necessary for their use in the fabrication of practical HTS devices such as cables, fault current limiters, feeder lines, motors, generators and transformers. Another goal of the workshop is to identify the most efficient and effective means to achieve these necessary characteristics.

Dr. Moeckly's presentation is titled "Fabrication of HTS Coated Conductors by Reactive Coevaporation."
