Techwell Unveils Next Generation Multi-Channel Video Decoder Solutions for Security Surveillance Applications

Techwell Will Demonstrate Its New TW2865 and TW2837 At the 2008 China International Exhibition On Public Safety and Security December 9-12th

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 9, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Techwell, Inc. (Nasdaq:TWLL), a leading designer of mixed signal video semiconductor solutions for the security surveillance, automotive, and consumer electronics markets, today announced two next generation multi-channel video decoder solutions, the TW2865 and the TW2837. The TW2865 is Techwell's 5th generation 4-in-1 in video decoder and integrates video encoder functionality for on-chip TV Out support. The TW2837 is Techwell's 4th generation quad controller with integrated display and multiplexing functionality and has enhanced on-screen display functionality to improve the user interface in a DVR. Techwell will preview its latest ICs for security surveillance applications at the 2008 China International Exhibition on Public Safety and Security held on Dec 9-12, 2008. Techwell will be located at booth number: 1B003 in the China International Exhibition Center, Beijing, P.R. China. In addition, Techwell products will also be showcased with numerous customers and partners at the show.

"While Techwell continues to integrate additional silicon into our security ICs, we also are focused on continuing to improve and differentiate our existing multi-channel video decoder products that have been the core of our business for a many years," said David Nam, Techwell's VP of Sales and Marketing. "TW2865 and TW2837 demonstrate our continued leadership in the surveillance market and we look forward to sampling the products to our customer this quarter and into next year."

About the TW2865 and TW2837 devices

The TW2865 is a 4-in-1 video decoder and audio codec plus video encoder for security surveillance applications. The device includes four high quality NTSC/PAL/SECAM video decoders that convert analog composite video signal to digital component YCbCr data. Each channel contains a10-bit ADC and proprietary clamp/gain controller and utilizes 4H comb filter for separating luminance & chrominance to reduce cross noise artifacts. The TW2865 adopts image enhancement techniques such as IF compensation filter, CTI and programmable peaking. In addition, TW2865 includes one NTSC/PAL video encoder with two 10-bit DACs to support CVBS and YC output. The TW2865 also includes an audio codec which has five audio ADCs and one DAC. A built-in audio controller can generate digital outputs for recording/mixing and accepts digital input for playback.

The TW2837 is an improved version of TW2835 with four high quality NTSC/PAL video decoders, dual color display controllers and dual video encoders. The device includes four built-in analog anti-aliasing filters, four 10-bit ADCs, a proprietary digital gain/clamp controller, a high quality Y/C separator to reduce cross noise, and a high performance free scaler. The TW2837 has four built-in motion, blind and night detectors and a flexible video display/record/playback controller supporting basic display and MUX functions. The device also has an enhanced 256-color OSD that can display bitmap, single box, 2D array box, and mouse pointer. The built-in channel ID CODEC allows auto decoding and displaying during playback, and the additional scaler on the playback supports multi-cropping function of the same field or frame image. The TW2837 has two NTSC/PAL video encoders with three 10-bit DACs that can support composite and S-video outputs. The TW2837 also has an improved audio CODEC which has four audio ADCs and one DAC. A built-in audio controller can generate digital outputs for recording/mixing and accept digital input for playback. The TW2837 can be configured up to 8/16 channel video controller using chip-to-chip cascade connection. TW2837 is pin-to-pin compatible to TW2835.
