Entropic Communications Announces SERIT Platform Corporation to Adopt EN4020 Advanced Silicon Tuner

SERIT Platform Corporation to Deliver Multi-mode Programmable Tuner Modules for DVB-T, DVB-C and PAL Applications

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon solutions to enable connected home entertainment, announced today that the EN4020, its new multi-mode hybrid RF CMOS silicon tuner, has been selected by SERIT Platform Corporation, manufacturer for Digital Terrestrial (DVB-T), Digital Cable (DVB-C) and Digital Satellite (DVB-S) tuner modules. SERIT has selected Entropic's EN4020 silicon tuner for the development of programmable hybrid DVB-T/PAL and DVB-C tuner modules for the rapidly growing set-top box and digital television markets.

Delivering Next-Generation Innovation

SERIT Platform Corporation is a top innovator in the design and development of digital tuner modules. The company is a leader in the design and manufacture of tuner modules that comply with the DVB standard, including digital satellite (DVB-S) television receivers and digital terrestrial receivers (DVB-T). The company's products have obtained many certifications worldwide and are sold widely for export STB markets as well as domestic markets in Korea. SERIT has established strategic alliances with top consumer electronics companies in Korea and is an approved vendor to many leading Korean set-top box and DTV manufacturers.

"The rapid expansion of digital cable broadcasting has resulted in higher performance requirements by set-top box vendors, which place a higher demand on tuner module manufacturers. Up to now, Korean set-top box manufacturers could only meet these requirements by utilizing expensive discrete tuner modules from traditional suppliers. Through the partnership with Entropic, we are now able to offer these set-top box vendors the choice of a compact, high-performance programmable tuner module based on advanced silicon tuner technology," said Mr. Cha, CEO of SERIT. "There is high demand for high-density, quality, cost-effective digital tuner modules for set-top box applications. These requirements create the need for a new approach to developing tuner modules and silicon tuners offer an effective solution. SERIT has partnered with Entropic Communications for development of a new generation of digital cable tuner modules. Entropic's EN4020 digital cable tuner delivers high performance, robust signal reception, even in the presence of excessive noise, and provides ready-to-manufacture design, which shortens our time-to-market. We look forward to more cooperation and joint developments of digital tuners with Entropic Communications."

Providing Programmability and High Performance

High-performance hybrid tuners that can meet the performance requirements of set-top box (STB) and TV manufacturers are key to the design of new set-top boxes and digital TVs capable of delivering digital video to service provider subscribers. The EN4020 silicon tuner with patented AdaptiveTune(tm) technology has proven performance advantages in the emerging digital cable (DVB-C) networks where excessive interference from legacy analog signal and terrestrial signal leakage into the cable can cause performance limitations that can degrade picture quality. Entropic's AdaptiveTune technology allows key characteristics of the tuner to be programmed via software to optimize front-end performance for different environmental conditions. The EN4020 contains all front-end functions and requires no external SAW filters or amplifiers.

"Programmable tuner modules are a cost-effective option for set-top box vendors. Entropic is actively working with leading tuner module manufacturers to develop software programmable tuner modules. We are very pleased to partner with SERIT to offer set-top box manufacturers a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to the more traditional discrete tuner modules that have been used historically," said Patrick Henry, CEO of Entropic Communications. "Entropic's RF tuner solutions help simplify design and manufacturing of tuner modules. The EN4020 delivers the high performance, reliability and simplified design that enables SERIT to meet the advanced requirements of set-top box and DTV manufacturers."
