One of the fraternities was having a "woodsie". She had heard about woodsies from her big sister, and that was probably the reason she was in college. In 1984, she returned to college and, in 1986, graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in philosophy. She has told her stories for years, but she learned to write them from the instructors at Institute of Children's Literature and earned a master's equivalency there. She was listed in Who's Who in America in 2000. Janet and Garry retired to Colorado in 2003 and they are enjoying the Colorado sunshine.
