MORRISTOWN, N.J., Jan. 13, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- When Vincent Mele received word that surgery was inevitable and a hospital stay was necessary, his family's concern quickly shifted from the operation performed to the germs that had begun to attack, and the very facility that was designed to help save Vincent's life would instead soon horrifically take it. Read how vulnerable we all are with Julia Nora Pilas' true account of life, and the hopeless fight for a loved one's survival, On the Street Where You Live.
Soon after Vincent Mele was diagnosed with an aneurysm, his family wasted no time in selecting a surgeon whose reputation had to be impeccable and expertise and talents undeniable. They wanted only the finest to perform the surgery on the man they loved so much and were confident they had made the right choice. Or did they? Certainly, his surgical resume spoke for itself, but did they need to know his principles, should they have been concerned with his morals, and did he have a conscience? These were questions they didn't know they needed answered until it was too late!
After a short trip to the hospital Vincent was anxious for his operation to begin. While Vincent's concern, at that moment in time, was on the operation and it seemed everything on the outside was fine, he unfortunately had no way of knowing that what was hidden on the inside was what he should have been more concerned with, and that he would never have a fighting chance to recover from the nightmare that was about to begin!
Although the success of the operation had brought relief to Vincent's family, his stay in the ICU became worrisome when his family quickly noticed so many other visitors were wearing yellow gowns and rubber gloves. Not knowing why they were dressed accordingly was not their concern; their only concern was for Vincent and the recovery that they so hoped for. Unfortunately, by day three, their hopes turned to fears because now those yellow gowns and rubber gloves were mandatory for them to wear as well and now Vincent's fight for his life was about to begin!
Inevitably, the infections that ravaged him, the procedures that weakened him, and the medications that destroyed him quickly took Vincent's life, and although his family so wished they could have hugged him again, heard his voice again, and most of all had taken him home with them again, they instead could do nothing but stand by and watch him suffer and die horrifically in the hands of a professional within the walls of a germ-filled facility.
In this touching chronicle of a family's agonizing dilemma, let this story capture your heart, open your mind and than let yourself be the judge, and together let's hope that someone will finally listen, someone will finally take responsibility, and someone will finally change what is so drastically wrong with our hospitals today.
