Canyon Acres Receives Coveted Grant From the Ducks Care Fund

ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif., Jan. 26, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, a charity organization committed to providing homes, care, treatment and supportive services for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children and their families, today announced it has received a $25,000 grant from Ducks Care, a fund of the McCormick Foundation. Canyon Acres will use the grant to expand and enrich its cutting-edge Therapeutic After-School Treatment Program at The Ranch Children's Treatment Center.

"Canyon Acres is incredibly honored to have received this prestigious grant," said Clete Menke, President of Canyon Acres. "The funds will go a long way to help ensure quality and staying power for our After-School program. Most importantly, it is encouraging to know the Ducks have joined us in our mission to provide safety, hope and love to the children who need it most."

Canyon Acres' Therapeutic After-School Treatment Program opened September 17, 2008 to provide activity-based treatment programs for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children. Services include participation in the agency's accredited horse-riding program, art and music therapy and group recreational therapy. There are currently 12 children enrolled; all of them come from Orange County and most are concurrently involved in the agency's Wraparound and Foster Care programs. In 2009, the After-School program expects to serve dozens more children.

"Canyon Acres is a natural fit as the beneficiary of one of our grants as Ducks Care aims to help children in areas of health, well-being and education here in Southern California," said Wendy Yamagishi, Director of Community Relations for the Anaheim Ducks. "The agency has a long and distinguished history of providing the best care for children of the direst circumstances, and we are excited the 2008 Ducks Care Volunteer Committee recommended helping Canyon Acres continue to deliver on its mission."
