According to BNS (2009.01.27), the Board Manager of JSC Rīgas Miesnieks has given the following commentary about the financial situation of Latvian meat processing companies: "All Latvian meat processing companies operate under prime cost. I do not know any processor who would operate with profit," he said and noted that financial annual reports of the companies give respective evidence. Škutāns emphasised that problems experienced by meat processing companies have been little discussed so far because the companies themselves are rather inactive and do not participate in discussions with same activity as dairy producers and processors.
