Conducted since 2004, the report studies gender diversity in the executive suite and in the Boardroom of Florida's top public companies. The study shows that 7.4 percent of Board seats in the top 150 Florida companies were held by women in 2008, the same level as 2007 but down from 2006 (8.7%). However, the number of female executive officers rose from 5.4 percent in 2006 to 7.0 percent in 2008. Visit http://womenexecutiveleadership.com to download a copy of the study. "We believe that 2009 represents a year in which women leaders can begin to rewrite the direction of America's corporate environment," said Cindy Kushner, President and Founder of WEL. "Companies that embrace gender diversity, both in the executive suite and in the Boardroom will be more likely to succeed in today's challenging economic period. One very promising sign is that the number of women serving in the executive suite is growing, which paves the way for increased presence in the Boardroom. WEL's objective is to ensure that our continued voice will encourage companies to tap the pool of qualified talent and support all women to pursue the attainable goal of leadership." About Women Executive Leadership WEL advocates, educates and connects accomplished executive women.
