LOS ANGELES, March 4, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At a banquet celebrating engineering accomplishments, 26 Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees were recognized for their outstanding contributions during 2008 by the Engineers' Council, an independent non-profit group that is dedicated to advancing the art and science of engineering and provides public recognition of engineering achievements.

The council recognized the following for most distinguished achievements:
-- Doug Fronius, director of Tactical Unmanned Systems of Northrop
Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector, received the Jack Northrop
Spirit of Innovation Award. Fronius is an engineer, mechanic,
pilot and executive. The Jack Northrop Spirit of Innovation award
honors individual technical contributions that inspire and
advance the progress of the industry. This award commemorates the
vision perseverance and engineering prowess of the company's
founder, whose achievements and techniques broke the barriers of
traditional aircraft design.
-- Frank Flores, vice president of Engineering for Northrop
Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector, is recognized as Engineer of
the Year for his outstanding effort to influence and increase
interest and awareness of Science, Technology, Education and
Mathematics (STEM) fields and careers in youth.
-- Alex Fax, director of Positioning, Navigation and Timing
Solutions for Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division,
part of the company's Electronic Systems sector, received a
Distinguished Engineering Achievement Award for advancement of
novel navigation solutions for non-traditional applications
operating in challenging environments.
-- Robert Grethel, manager of the Navigation Systems Analysis Group
for Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division, received a
Distinguished Engineering Achievement Award for major
contributions to the science and engineering of multi-sensor
integrated inertial navigation system that are of significant
benefit to the United States military and security of the nation.

The Engineers' Council presented a total of 99 awards at the Honors and Awards Banquet in Universal City, Calif. on Feb 28, one of the largest celebrations of National Engineers Week (Feb. 15 - 21) in the nation.
