Mechdyne Drives Sony Technology Into Advanced Visualization Applications, Reaches 800 Million Pixel Milestone
Company First to Integrate More Than 100 Sony SXRD 8MP Projection Systems
| Source: Mechdyne
MARSHALLTOWN, IA--(Marketwire - March 10, 2009) - Mechdyne Corporation today announced that
it has deployed more than one hundred of Sony Corporation's ground-breaking
SXRD® 4096 x 2160 resolution projection systems into advanced visual
environments around the world. Combined, these projectors represent more
than eight hundred million pixels of digital imagery installed for
applications that enable new insight and expand knowledge in engineering,
research, government and military programs.
Originally designed by Sony for digital cinema applications, SXRD
projection has found a strong following in advanced graphics and
visualization applications. Mechdyne worked with Sony to create and test a
version of the projector that would support high bandwidth computer
graphics signals. The first SXRD computer graphics capable projectors were
installed by Mechdyne in a 24 projector, 100 million pixel stereoscopic
pixel system for Iowa State University's C6 six-sided virtual reality
environment. Since then, Mechdyne has integrated single projector systems
for 2D (monoscopic) imagery and, using two projectors and Mechdyne's
patented Beacon technology, incredible 3D (stereoscopic) imagery systems at
locations around the world.
Mechdyne integrates SXRD projectors into a wide variety of display
configurations including large scale Powerwall™ displays, surround
screen CAVE™ environments, FLEX™ reconfigurable displays and
auditorium screens as well as custom configurations. Mechdyne also
provides fully configured graphics computing systems and software that
takes full advantage of the SXRD's incredible resolution. Mechdyne highly
recommends the new T-series SXRD projector for advanced visualization
applications given its improved brightness, enhanced contrast ratios and
other improvements. The first T-Series projectors are currently being
staged at Mechdyne for a multi-room, multi-projector research facility at
King Abdullah University in Dubai.
