TERRE HAUTE, Ind., March 11, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nearly 450 track and field athletes from 134 colleges and universities will compete in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships March 13-14 at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Participants from 27 states will vie for national titles in 38 events, but they will have one thing in common: all will compete on a Mondo Super X Performance track.
The six-lane, 200-meter Mondo Super X Performance track with eight-lane straightaways was installed in the Rose-Hulman Sports and Recreation Center seven years ago. "We're really satisfied with the Super X track," said Larry Cole, the university's men's and women's track and field coach. "From a training and performance standpoint, it's very fast and a lot easier on our athletes than other tracks."
This event marks the second time in three years that Rose-Hulman is hosting the Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The facility is used not only for track and field training and competitions, but also for a variety of other sports and events. "We use this facility every day of the year, including for graduation ceremonies and career fairs," Cole said. "It's a very high-traffic area and the Mondo surface is extremely durable."
Cole said the Mondo Super X Performance track is a major factor in recruiting student-athletes. "We always highlight our Mondo track -- it's definitely a big selling point," he said. "We are very proud to have Mondo for our indoor track because we feel like it's the best track surface out there."
The world's top track for more than 30 years and the track of the eight Olympic Games prior to Beijing, Super X Performance was designed to maintain its initial physical properties so it provides consistent performance throughout its life. The vulcanized natural rubber surface provides maximum elasticity and unparalleled durability, and its embossed, textured finish makes it extremely easy to maintain with no resurfacing required. The high-performance track is renowned for its shock absorption and optimal energy return, and its ideal blend of speed and comfort minimizes the occurrence of injuries.
