Ecology and Environment Wins Award for LEED Platinum Headquarters Building Design

BUFFALO, NY--(Marketwire - March 17, 2009) - Ecology and Environment Engineering P.C. (NASDAQ: EEI) received three awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), including ACEC's most prestigious "Diamond Award" in the Building/Technology Systems Category for LEED Platinum certification of its global headquarters.

Ecology and Environment achieved LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2008 through a combination of innovative architectural design, sustainability planning, adaptive management methods, and specialized operating systems. Built in 1987, before green building was a common term, the firm's global headquarters is the oldest existing building in the world to be awarded the highest rating of Platinum.

Ecology and Environment did not need to significantly change the building's structure to qualify for Platinum rating, and it already had many sustainable practices in place. These practices include recycling and composting, energy and water conservation practices, a carpool incentive program, and other employee-awareness initiatives.

For Ecology and Environment, this project reflects a practical approach to green buildings. The global headquarters provides a desirable workspace for employees while striking an ecological balance with the adjoining landscape.

In addition, Ecology and Environment received the "Best Panel Award," judged by ACEC's Public Relations Committee on the basis of the aesthetic combination of photographic images and text. The project panel was selected as the winner from a pool of 109 entries. The company also received ACEC awards for the landfill redevelopment of River Point at Sheridan in Colorado, and for the provision of environmental services at windparks for Noble Environmental LLC.

Ecology and Environment has completed over 35,000 projects for a wide variety of clients in 83 countries, providing environmental solutions in nearly every ecosystem on our planet. The Company is listed on the NASDAQ under the symbol EEI and is located on the web at www.ene.com.
