TAMPA, FL--(Marketwire - April 7, 2009) - Enterprise Data World -- ASG Software Solutions, the originator of ASG's
Business Service Portfolio™ (BSP™) and a worldwide leader in
business solutions for global enterprises, today announced its new
ASG-Business Glossary™. The software extends the traditional function of
business glossaries -- standardizing terminology shared among IT and
business employees -- by also providing contextual links to related assets,
an integrated workflow approval process, and an audit trail supporting
governance, risk, and compliance initiatives.
One of the biggest barriers to maximally leveraging and exploiting an
organization's information assets is understanding the underlying data.
Terminology varies widely from team to team. For example, to a sales
manager, the term "revenue" may be a commission-based number, while to a
financial manager, the same term may refer to cash inflow.
ASG-Business Glossary enables terms across domains to be defined and linked
to most any context to help clarify its meaning and usage (e.g.,
relationship to other terms, links to its logical and physical
implementation in databases, data warehouse, reports, cubes, applications,
etc.). These governed definitions and relationships enable both business
and IT users to confidently and efficiently understand data in ways not
previously available. With this centralized terminology and context,
organizations can be confident that their analytic reports reflect the
actual health of their enterprise across lines of business.
The solution functions across multiple, related glossaries and individual
repositories, making it easy for teams to work together to improve
information-sharing and facilitate appropriate data use. In addition, the
ASG-Business Glossary incorporates workflow to support online change
submissions, notifications, and approvals, which allows terms to be managed
according to internal governance processes and compliance requirements.
ASG-Business Glossary is part of a class of software from ASG called
"MetaApps" by which uniquely rich context is brought to targeted
application areas to improve the quality and speed of decision making.
"We built ASG-Business Glossary in collaboration with a Special Interest
Group (SIG) of new and existing customers needing a solution that would
provide them with richer definitional context and governance process than
was otherwise available," said Scott McCurdy, Senior Vice President of
Business Solutions at ASG. "The organizations we are working with
understand that without a solid foundation for data understanding, efforts
to leverage and exploit data (e.g., data warehouses, decision processes,
etc.) will fail to realize their potential."
McCurdy added that ASG-Business Glossary will continue to be refined
through ongoing collaboration with its SIG customer group, which includes
leaders in healthcare, financial services, online marketplaces, and more.
ASG is exhibiting at Enterprise Data World in Tampa, Fla., at Booth # 102.
