What Makes a Nation Great -- a Concise History of the United States of America

RIVER FOREST, Ill., April 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Just what makes a great nation? The United Kingdom is known for its monarchies, the Soviet Union for its socialist government, and the United States for its democracy. But then a form of government is just one of the many important aspects of a country. Author and American historian John Peter Dunnell, Ed.D., collects some of the most significant parts of this great nation's history and compiles them in one great book that truly showcases American Greatness.

It is a country of diverse cultures that began from the time the Mayflower brought in pilgrims seeking solace for their religion. It is a people born out of mixed cultural heritage -- British, Dutch, Swedes, Irish, Jews, Italians, Germans, Asians, Africans, and of course the different tribes of Native Americans. It is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy that holds hope for other cultures who feel trapped or persecuted in their homeland, as had the first settlers felt in theirs. It is a place where one can dream and take charge of one's destiny, not feel confined to the life one was born into. It is a country called the United States of America, the land of dreams.

From the discovery of Christopher Columbus to Ronald Reagan's appeal to the Soviets, here is a concise history of what makes America great. The many people, who were at the right place at the right time, preserved the spirit that made the United States not only free but unknowingly helped it become a great nation. Delve into the rich history of this great nation and preserve the accomplishments of the many noble people of this remarkable country. For more information, log on to www.Xlibris.com.
