Canon Communications Successfully Launches New Medical Manufacturing Trade Show in Japan
Reflecting the Ongoing Strength of the Global Medical Technology Sector, Company Expects MEDTEC Japan to Double in Size in 2010

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - April 20, 2009) - Canon
Communications today announced that its first-ever MEDTEC
Japan show brought together 4,500 visitors and 106 exhibiting companies
on April 7-8 in the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Center. This 40:1
attendee-to-exhibitor ratio is more than twice the level of Canon's
strongest and longest running shows.
"Because the medical technology sector globally remains so strong, even in
an uncertain economy for many other industries, trade shows take on
increased importance as a marketing tool that puts suppliers face-to-face
with their customers on a time- and cost-effective basis," said Charles G.
McCurdy, Chairman and CEO of Canon Communications. "And because Canon is
the leading business-to-business media provider in the medical technology
sector through its unique blend of trade shows, publications, electronic
media and data base resources, MEDTEC is the strongest brand in global
trade shows serving the needs of medical manufacturers. Demonstrating this,
exhibitors at MEDTEC Japan came from throughout North America, Europe, and
Asia."
Canon produces 11 medical design and manufacturing shows around the world
that attract over 5,000 exhibitors and occupy nearly one million net square
feet of exhibit space, including MEDTEC-branded shows in Japan, Germany,
the U.K., Ireland and China.
Exhibitor and visitor reaction to MEDTEC Japan has been so universally
positive that Canon expects the next edition -- scheduled for April 15-16,
2010 -- to at least double in size to more than 250 exhibitors, according
to Kevin O'Keefe, Senior Vice-President of Canon's events division. "The
Japanese medical manufacturing market is second only to the U.S. market in
size and consistent growth. In addition, the Japanese manufacturing sector
is changing, with mainstays like automotive and electronics sufficiently
diminished that, perhaps for the first time, major corporations are fully
focused on medical manufacturing as a new market to enter, and in a big
way."
