News Facts:
- Omni-ID, a leading innovator in
passive ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID)
technology, today announces it is working with IBM to provide an IT asset
tracking solution that improves the performance of RFID tags for use in the
data center.
- Omni-ID is providing IBM with UHF passive tags for use within IBM's data
center resource management solution which uses smart sensor technology
to help track IT assets within the data center. This solution works with
Omni-ID's patent-pending technology to help eliminate obstacles to RFID
adoption in the data center.
- Because Omni-ID's line of RFID tags have a small form factor and have
overcome the challenges of RFID readability in the presence of metal, they
are the ideal choice for the data center. For example, Omni-ID RFID tags
can be attached to almost any equipment found in the data center, such as
hard drives, individual server blades and even cables -- items that were
previously difficult to track due to their metal content, their proximity
to metal and limited taggable space.
- Together, the solutions help address common IT asset management
challenges in any data center such as asset visibility, inventory
management and reporting, product receiving, end of life, and compliance
with financial and legal requirements by tracking hardware both within the
data center and as it moves in and out of the data center.
- Based on multiple studies at IBM and customer data centers, savings
have been estimated at $10 per asset per year using Omni-ID Prox™ RFID
tags. The result of such a savings means that an RFID investment can be
paid back in less than a year in a large data center.
- Omni-ID is continuing to work closely with IBM to extend the reach of
its RFID technology to IBM customers worldwide through IBM's data center
resource management solution with Omni-ID On Demand™, an on-site
commissioning solution, which addresses large-scale deployment issues in
data centers.
- Omni-ID and IBM will hold a pre-conference seminar for IT Professionals
and an Interactive Learning Workshop at RFID Journal LIVE 2009,
April 27-29th in Orlando Florida.

- "As a pioneer in sensor technology, we are committed to finding
Business Partners who meet our standards of innovation," said Brian
Dalgetty, director, sensor solutions development, IBM. "Omni-ID and their
passive UHF tags solve long-standing technical concerns within the data
center environment. Omni-ID Prox™ RFID tags used in conjunction with
IBM sensor events software enables us to deliver a compelling data center
asset tracking solution."
- "The name IBM is synonymous with innovation and with providing business
value from technology investments," said Tom Pavela, president and CEO of
Omni-ID. "To ensure technological excellence, IBM put Omni-ID's tags
through rigorous testing to demonstrate their reliability, robustness and
bottom-line value. At every step of the way, Omni-ID was equal to the
task. Our collaboration with IBM is validation that Omni-ID has broken new
ground in the RFID industry."
