Ocarina 3.0 Targets Partners Seeking to Rapidly Deliver Optimized Online Storage Solutions
"Ocarina Optimized" Initiative Delivers Optimization as a Built-In Feature of Capacity Optimized Storage, a Must Have for the "Petabyte Era"
| Source: Ocarina
SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - May 6, 2009) - Ocarina Networks today announced the release
of the newest version of its online storage optimization solution, Ocarina
ECOsystem 3.0. The breakthrough solution delivers up to a ten-fold capacity
increase of storage systems from leading vendors and now offers the ability
to optimize the broadest range of file formats in the storage industry.
Ocarina ECOsystem 3.0 debuts new functionalities that provide end-to-end,
tunable storage optimization, and extends content-aware dedupe and
compression to hundreds of file types used across the global 2000 and in
dozens of vertical markets. With this release, Ocarina also introduces
"Ocarina Optimized," a new ECOsphere partner program that enables tight
integration and deep embedding of Ocarina's technology with industry
leading clustered NAS offerings to deliver the industry's first truly
optimized NAS solutions.
The petabyte era has emerged with organizations in every industry
accumulating data at unprecedented rates. Storage optimization in the form
of dedupe and compression has become a must-have feature for all forms of
online file services, from primary storage, to nearline and archive.
Ocarina Optimized allows the industry's leading NAS providers to integrate
and embed the Ocarina solution directly inside their own platforms,
delivering up to 90% storage capacity improvements and 3-5 times better
results than NetApp dedupe.
Ocarina Optimized enables deep integration inside multiple file storage
solutions, such that each vendor receives a unique adaptation of the
Ocarina solution specifically designed to take advantage of their
architectural strengths, file system interfaces, and performance profile.
New to Ocarina ECOsystem 3.0 is object deduplication, the ability to manage
optimized data end-to-end and customize the workflow by deciding how and
where in the life-cycle to dedupe and compress data. Object deduplication,
unique to the Ocarina ECOsystem, can identify duplicate information within
and across file types, tiers and vendors, resulting in much higher
reduction rates. Object dedupe delivers data reduction where ordinary block
dedupe does not because it can operate without the need for a lot of
duplicated data. Block dedupe is best suited for backup environments and
object dedupe for online storage.
"This release sits squarely at the intersection of two major industry
trends -- the rampant growth of unstructured data at enterprise IT shops
and NAS vendors seeking to offer more storage capacity at lower costs,"
said Murli Thirumale, CEO, Ocarina Networks. "Ocarina Optimized
dramatically changes the capacity trajectory of storage systems and enables
the new category of Optimized NAS. This is perfect timing for customers in
these tough economic times."
