When Ignorance is Blissfully Funny -- Entertaining Memoir Recalls Author's Experiences During the Late Sixties

ROCK ISLAND, Ill., June 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The years in high school and university will mean differently to different people. There will be many firsts during that period; some will recall those times with fondness, others may not remember it that affectionately. See the unfolding of a turbulent generation as author F.P. Kopp shares his quirky and irreverent memoir in I Choose To Be Ignorant: Reminiscences and Revisions of My University of Iowa Years.

Choosing between stupidity and ignorance, what would you have? For F.P. Kopp, he makes a rather unexpected choice. He elaborates on this answer by recalling his eventful college years and sharing his thoughts and opinions with unabashed glee. The time, after all, was the late Sixties. It was a psychedelic era, a period of social unrest and political upheaval, man's first steps on the Moon, the dawn of the Computer Age, the fall of Richard Nixon, and premature closings of colleges and universities across the nation. It was also a time for living the Playboy Philosophy in the dormitories and the end of the panty raid era.

This work is full of humorous recollections of college in the '60s and '70s, told by a student who was not necessarily at the center of history, not even close. It is a vivid and entertaining portrait of a time and place, where everything is true -- well, except for the parts that are made-up.

I Choose To Be Ignorant will be featured in the 2009 Illinois Library Association Book Exhibit to be held in Peoria, IL, this October. Watch out for it! For more information, go to www.Xlibris.com.

About the Author

Fred Kopp is a native of Iowa. He arrived on the scene just as it had become apparent that Iowa would not be ravaged by the barbarian horsemen that had terrified Europe some 800 years before. By the time of his arrival, Iowa had also just finished digging out and cleaning up from the devastation wrought by the Great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906. All in all, it was a good time to have arrived.
