PRESS RELEASE

LBi and D&AD have created a mass social movement by asking everyone
to pledge their support to students in the recession and attend
D&AD's NEW BLOOD Exhibition the week of Monday 29th June

In an economic downturn it is more important than ever for the
advertising and design industry to stand united and ensure that
graduating talent gets a chance to thrive. In the last recession
talent was not taken on and the industry suffered beyond measure. LBi
and D&AD have worked in collaboration to create one of the largest
industry movements of all time named 'I'll be there'. The industry
- everyone within it - has been asked over the last 2 months to
register their support for students on www.dandad.org/newblood09
<http://www.dandad.org/newblood09> . They pledge their support by
uploading their own image saying 'I'll be there'. The results have
been phenomenal with just over 2,000 from the industry and over 2,000
students registering to date.

Six industry icons were selected to spearhead the campaign asking for
support. They are Simon Waterfall, Co Founder Poke, Mark Waites Co
Founder Mother London, Neville Brody Designer and Art Director who
has been at the forefront of graphic design for over two decades,
Morag Myerscough - renowned graphic designer, Graham Fink Creative
Director M&C Saatchi and Caroline Pay former BBH Creative Director
and now of Karmarama. Nadav Kander, the world renowned photographer
who is attributed with capturing the Obama campaign showed his
support by creating incredible colour images of these 6 industry
heroes. This is a huge departure for him - he has never taken photos
on a block coloured background before. These stunning 6 images
have become large posters saying 'I'll be there'. They were sent to
10,000 students, industry workers and members of D&AD. The message -
asking people to 'pledge their support and cultivate new talent'.
The back of the poster was a blank coloured background and everyone
was asked to take their own photo, upload it onto the website and
pledge their support with a message.

After the posters triggered a controversial debate among both the
advertising and design communities, the industry has embraced the
campaign, including Andrew Keller, Partner / Co-Executive Creative
Director Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Boulder, Kate Stanners Executive
Creative Director Saatchi & Saatchi Duncan Swain of BBC Worldwide,
Christian Mommertz - Ogilvy & Mather, Will Farquharr - McCann
Erikson, Chris Arnold - Creative Orchestra, Chris Clarke, Global
Creative Director LBi, Feh Tarty - Wieden & Kennedy, Ian Reichenthal
- Chief Creative Officer, Y&R New York, Tony Chambers Editor-in-Chief
Wallpaper*, Tomas Mankovsky Fallon, Paul Shearer, Global Executive
Creative Director, Nitro. This is to name but a few.

The campaign has taken on a life of its own and spawned a whole
stream of cut-ups and user-generated visual responses across Flickr,
Facebook and other social networks. As well as being pasted up as
street art across London.

LBi's Laura Jordon Bambach, Executive Creative Director comments
"It's been a great pleasure to work with the D&AD and to help with
what I feel is their most important event of the year; a celebration
of what can be achieved with real collaboration"

Greg Quinton, D&AD Education Chairman & Executive Creative Director,
The Partners has said "No matter what the current situation with
recruitment, we need to keep supporting students and graduates more
than ever. By meeting, reviewing their portfolios and offering
practical advice, we directly help them develop. As you know, the
constant need for fresh talent is essential for the creative
industry. The grey clouds of recession will not last forever and
we'll all need new talent when the sun shines again. If we don't
help them now, who knows if they will still be there when we suddenly
need them again?"
