Escape Communications Announces Availability of 1+1 Hot-Standby Switch Protection Mode in the EXM-2L16 Cost-Optimized Indoor Unit (IDU)

TORRANCE, Calif., July 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Escape Communications, Inc., the leading provider of cost-optimized microwave radio Indoor Units (IDUs), today announced the availability of the 1+1 Hot Standby Switch Protection Mode for the EXM-2L16 IDU. This single-box solution increases system reliability and minimizes link downtime in the event of an Outdoor Unit (ODU) hardware failure.

The recently announced EXM-2L16 is a highly flexible and scalable cost-optimized IDU that can be paired with a customer-unique or off-the-shelf outdoor unit (ODU) to provide a point-to-point (PTP) microwave connection. The EXM-2L16 boasts a wide array of advanced features, including dual native TDM and Ethernet traffic transport, at data rates to 170 Mbps using modulations to 256 QAM in channels of up to 30 MHz. The addition of 1+1 Hot Standby Switch Protection satisfies carriers' needs for built-in hardware redundancy and higher backhaul link reliability without significant incremental cost and without compromising link capacity.

In 1+1 Hot Standby Switch Protection Mode, the EXM-2L16 IDU automatically detects an ODU hardware failure, isolates the location of the failure, generates SNMP traps and presents alarms on a web GUI display, and switches traffic from the primary ODU to a secondary hot standby ODU. This automatic protection against ODU hardware failure increases system reliability and minimizes link outages or downtime. The EXM-2L16 protects both primary and hot standby ODUs from a single small form factor IDU, further adding to the overall cost effectiveness of the solution.

"We are extremely proud to announce the availability of our hot standby-protected EXM-2L16 IDU for the point-to-point microwave radio market," said co-founder and CEO, Michael Stewart. "By providing a cost-efficient method of protecting ODUs, our OEM customers can offer higher availability links with less downtime and outages, providing both CAPEX and OPEX savings over the life of the network."
