MINNEAPOLIS, July 23, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Wireless Ronin Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:RNIN), a Minneapolis-based digital signage provider, announced today that Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego is utilizing a dual language interactive touch screen technology using RoninCast(r) digital signage software to educate and inform visitors about marine life.
"The application at Birch Aquarium provides visitors with exciting information about the species they are observing including natural habitat video, providing a much more engaging learning environment than with traditional static signage," said James (Jim) Granger, president and CEO of Wireless Ronin Technologies. "In addition to stunning video and still images, visitors can choose to have information presented in either English or Spanish, thus reaching a larger audience demographic."
"The Wireless Ronin digital signage system is a beautiful addition to our facility and we have had very positive feedback by both visitors and staff," said Nigella Hillgarth, executive director at Birch Aquarium at Scripps. "This project allows us to better address a core objective to provide engaging, education-based content in two languages while reducing traditional textual signage. We look forward to expanding the network to other locations and tanks within our facility."
Birch Aquarium at Scripps has implemented the system to enhance their visitors' experience and increase access to Scripps Oceanography science for their Spanish-speaking guests. The aquarium hopes to expand the program throughout the facility after evaluating the initial installation. The installation was funded by private donations, and it will serve as proof of concept to attract funding for additional touch screens. Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the only non-profit, public aquarium in San Diego County.
