Corporate America Commits to Recycling Electronics; Kansas-Based Recycled Ink and Toner Remanufacturer Diverts 394 Tons of E-Waste
| Source: InkCycle
KANSAS CITY, MO--(Marketwire - August 5, 2009) - Nationally and internationally, large
corporations such as Apple and Sony are making it easier to recycle
e-waste, according to their Web sites. One such company based in Kansas,
InkCycle, committed to protecting the planet by diverting 394 tons of ink
and toner cartridges in 2008. Grenk, powered by InkCycle, a company that
produces remanufactured ink and toner cartridges, developed the Carbon
Neutronic Index™ which allows businesses to track the amount of landfill
waste saved. Recycle ink and toner cartridges by reading grenk's blog:

Last year, Americans discarded three million tons of e-waste, which
includes computers, cell phones and ink and toner cartridges. Once
discarded, many old electronics leak potentially fatal chemicals, like lead
and mercury. These pollutants can get into the soil and waterways.
Brad Roderick, executive vice president of InkCycle, stated that the grenk
line has also inspired the company to look at additional ways of practicing
environmentalism while recycling ink and toner cartridges. "At grenk, we
continue to make both mandated and optional changes within our facilities.
Migration to hybrid vehicles, on-site waste water treatment, recycling, a
ban on Styrofoam containers and disposable water bottles, etc.," says
Roderick. Watch grenk video:

E-waste is not only an issue for the U.S. but is also a global challenge,
and according to 60 Minutes and CBS, "much of this poison is coming out of
the homes, schools and offices of America." However, the affects are felt
halfway around the world in places like Hong Kong, where one town has the
"highest levels of cancer causing dioxins in the world." CBS News:
