WEST JORDAN, Utah, Aug. 12, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The newest adaptive-use field with a Mondo surface opens today with the dedication of the SME STEEL Field of Dreams. Located in West Jordan Memorial Park near Salt Lake City, the new field was planned and largely funded by the West Jordan Rotary Club.
The SME STEEL Field of Dreams features a Mondo Super X rubber surface and is designed to present a safe and playable environment for athletes of all ages with special needs and physical challenges, so they can enjoy the benefits of playing baseball, soccer and more. The playing surface is flat, without grass, dirt, raised bases, a raised pitcher's mound or other items that would be obstacles for wheelchairs and walkers. It is the 26th adaptive-use field in the country with a Mondo Super X surface.
Super X is ideal for adaptive-use fields because it provides a level playing surface with consistent performance in all climates, and it's non-slip, which makes it easy to maneuver wheelchairs and walkers. The non-porous, cushioned surface is made of sustainable materials, such as renewable natural rubber, natural fillers and color pigments that are free of lead and other heavy metals. It's antibacterial and antimicrobial throughout, free of harmful chemicals and has an unrivaled point-load recovery for supporting bleachers, benches and equipment. In addition, Super X is low maintenance because it does not require any coatings, and it's easy to clean.
