CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwire - August 19, 2009) - The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS) has notified Compass Clinical Consulting
(http://www.compass-clinical.com) client Cherry Hospital that they plan to
certify the facility to receive Medicare and Medicaid funds.
MEDICARE DECERTIFICATION
Cherry Hospital (Cherry), a state-run behavioral health facility located in
Goldsboro, NC, was decertified as a Medicare and Medicaid provider,
effective September 1, 2008. The North Carolina Department of Health and
Human Services retained Compass Clinical Consulting to help the hospital
evaluate its management and operations.
SURVIVE
The financial and public relations implications of the Medicare
Decertification process for any hospital are difficult and dire. It quickly
affects everyone -- patients, nurses, and doctors. As a result some
hospitals don't survive. Immediate corrective measures must be taken.
REVIVE
Over the course of one year, Compass Clinical Consulting ushered Cherry
through strategic leadership changes and helped to develop and implement
action plans to bring the hospital into compliance with CMS Conditions of
Participation. Following a successful survey on July 22, 2009, Cherry was
deemed to be in full compliance with the Conditions of Participation for
Acute Care Hospitals and the Special Conditions of Participation for
Psychiatric Hospitals. The hospital will again be eligible to receive
Medicare and Medicaid funds.
"We have seen tremendous change in Cherry Hospital over the course of the
last several months," says Compass Clinical Consulting president, Cary D.
Gutbezahl, MD. "We are confident in the ability of the hospital's
leadership to continue the progress that has been made."
SECOND REVIVAL THIS YEAR
For Compass Clinical Consulting, Cherry is the second client to
successfully regain Medicare and Medicaid funding in one year.
MEDICARE TERMINATION RECOVERY SERVICES
"We specialize in clinical operations and regulatory compliance. Our goal
is to be the number one go-to resource that hospitals and healthcare
systems think of when confronted with Medicare decertification," said Dr.
Gutbezahl.
