Northrop Grumman Partners With National Environmental Education Foundation, Volunteers to Help Protect Nation's Public Lands

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has partnered with the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) to promote year-round public land conservation through the Public Lands Program and sponsor NEEF's National Public Lands Day (NPLD), an annual event focused on improving and enhancing the nation's public lands.

National Public Lands Day, held this year on September 26, will give volunteers around the country the opportunity to participate in projects to beautify and protect public spaces. The company is encouraging its employees to support sites hosted by the U.S. Department of Defense. For a list of these sites, visit: http://publiclandsday.org/legacy. NPLD aims to educate Americans about critical environmental and natural resources issues; build partnerships between the public sector and local community; and improve public lands for outdoor recreation.

"We are excited to partner with National Environmental Education Foundation," said Sandra Evers-Manly, president of the Northrop Grumman Foundation. "This partnership will allow more of our employees to volunteer in their communities, helping preserve our public lands. This initiative complements the company's green efforts that aim to make the company a more sustainable business by encouraging conservation at home, in the workplace and in the community."

As part of its partnership with NEEF, Northrop Grumman will create online training resources and networking opportunities between public land managers and nonprofit support groups. This will help support NEEF's existing network of partnerships to create year-round activities that enlist both public land managers and local community organizations to protect public lands.

NPLD began in 1994 with three federal agencies and 700 volunteers. Last year, 120,000 volunteers worked in over 1,800 locations and in every state. Now, eight federal agencies and many state and local lands participate in this annual day of caring for shared lands.

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) provides knowledge to trusted professionals who, with their credibility, amplify messages to national audiences to solve everyday environmental problems. Together, NEEF generates lasting positive change.
