Charles Multi-Purpose Housings Product Line Expanded to Meet Growing Demands of Outside Plant Copper and Fiber Networks

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL--(Marketwire - September 10, 2009) - Charles Industries, Ltd., a leading
provider of outside plant innovations for communications service providers,
has introduced three new sizes to its popular Charles Multi-Purpose Housing
(CMPH) line of non-metallic outside plant enclosures for copper and fiber
networks. The new CMPH models give service providers increased flexibility
in placing low-cost, environmentally-protected splice and storage
enclosures in a variety of outdoor locations.
The CMPH series of expanded-capacity outside plant housings was first
introduced in 2004. CMPH were originally designed to offer service
providers a cost-efficient housing for rehabilitation of metallic cabinets.
The two-piece design of CMPH makes them an ideal solution to rehabilitating
existing splice points without disturbing cable bundles. The CMPH was
originally offered in the 7500 Series size of 48" x 27" x 14.5".
After five years of reliable performance in the field, the CMPH line has
been expanded to offer service providers a wider range of housings for
their large-capacity copper and fiber splicing needs. The three new sizes
of CMPH include the 4500 series (43.5" x 19" x 16.5"), the 5500 series (30"
x 35" x 18") and the 9500 series (42" x 40" x 28").
Mitch Gaudyn, OSP product manager for Charles Industries, sees the
expansion of the CMPH line as an opportunity for service providers to save
money in their copper and fiber networks. "With an assortment of sizes to
choose from, providers now have 'right-sized' options for large-capacity,
non-metallic OSP housings capable of storing just about any splice
configuration, cable slack length, or other remotely deployed equipment.
'Multi-purpose' is an accurate description of CMPH housings. They are both
cost-effective and structurally well suited for hundreds of everyday OSP
storage applications."
The CMPH line has evolved to include multiple internal bracket options for
both copper and fiber rehabilitation and new provisioning applications. For
copper splicing, brackets featuring rigid ladder bars are available.
Environmentally-sealed fiber splice cases may be securely mounted to a CMPH
with optional offset metal mounting brackets. CMPH are also ideally suited
for cable slack storage.
CMPH are designed to provide superior environmental protection. They are
constructed of lightweight polyethylene that offers dent resistance,
corrosion protection, and electric shock safety. A
one-piece dome locks securely onto the base with side self-latches and bolt
locks, creating a "bell-jar" effect that protects internal components in
flood-prone areas. The lift-off dome provides technicians with convenient
360-degree access to internal working areas. CMPH lower installation
costs, as their direct-buried design does not require a concrete pad for
installation.
