HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - September 10, 2009) -
Genesis Business Communication Systems will host a
Disaster Recovery
Luncheon to honor the disaster recovery technology heroes throughout
the Greater Houston area. These professionals have to plan for potential
disasters and their aftermaths long before they occur to help local
institutions and businesses recover as quickly as possible. Attendees will
hear from technology leaders about business continuity strategies and
options available in the industry today. The luncheon will take place at
the
Federal Reserve Bank
of Dallas, Houston Branch on Wednesday, September 30 from 11:15 a.m. to
1:20 p.m. CT, with a tour of the bank immediately following.
Those interested in attending the luncheon should RSVP at
http://www.genesisbcs.com/rsvp. As this informative event will be held at
the Federal Reserve Bank, all attendees must RSVP by September 18 and be
approved prior to the event.
The keynote speaker will be Ralph Farr, VP of Information Services for
University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at
Galveston, the oldest medical school in Texas. As Mr. Farr and his team
know firsthand from Hurricane Ike and other storms, natural disasters are
impossible to predict or prevent, making it vital to have a solid recovery
plan ready in advance. He will share his story of how his team prepared,
the storm's impact, and lessons learned.
Farr, who earned his computer science degree from UT Austin and lives in
Galveston, oversees the information technology needs of the academic
medical center. He has 30 years of experience in IT, the last five of those
in a senior leadership role with the university's Department of Information
Services. He currently manages a world-class team of more than 200 charged
with providing and managing voice services, data networks, desktop
services, the data center and application systems.
At the luncheon, industry experts including
ShoreTel,
Lifesize,
Enterasys and
Paetec will be on hand to address their
business continuation capabilities and unique strengths. Attendees will
also be able to meet education specialists and discuss burning topics such
as grants, E-rate, education programs and more.
