MONTREAL--(Marketwire - September 14, 2009) - 23-year old Ryan Stotland of Montreal is tackling
a grueling bicycle tour around South America to raise money for two causes
close to his heart: skin cancer and climate change. Due to their
progressive approach and excellent reputations, Montreal's Jewish General
Hospital and the David Suzuki Foundation are the two organizations Ryan
wanted to benefit from his tour. Ryan will be arriving in Santiago for a
little pause on the 17th before heading north through Chile, Bolivia, Peru
and finally reaching Ecuador. The entire adventure which started in Rio de
Janeiro on July 24th will total over 12,000km and finish on December 6th.
He is currently in a small town in Argentina called Uspallata traversing
the Andes in the middle of the South American winter.
More information is available on his website: www.12000km.org.
As part of the folk rock band called The Astroturf, Ryan recorded a
political satire song, entitled "Financial Crisis Revisited" and
distributed it on the video sharing website - YouTube. Ryan wrote the song
while working as a fixed income analyst at a prestigious macro economic
forecasting firm in Montreal called BCA research. The song tells the story
of Lehman Bros. and its collapse last year. It is a witty rundown of the
major events that led to the current recession that uses dead-pan humor to
voice a disappointment in the current economy and failure of the system
that supports it. The song is nicely timed with the anniversary of Lehman
Brothers' bankruptcy of September 15, 2008.

The tour of South America is not Ryan's first charity effort that involved
cycling. In 2006 he toured his native Canada. Coming from a family with a
long history of generously supporting the Jewish General Hospital, Ryan
selected the future Skin Cancer Centre as the primary beneficiary for his
8,000 km tour of Canada, raising over $150,000! This had him listed as one
of the Montrealers of the year in the Montreal Gazette in 2006. The success
of the Canadian tour inspired Ryan to seek out the involvement of another
cause close to his heart -- the environment -- broadening the proceeds of
his 12,000 km South American tour to include the David Suzuki Foundation.
To date, Ryan has raised close to $60,000 during the South American tour
and hopes to beat his previous success in Canada.
