MuleSoft Releases Tcat Server With iBeans, for Integrating Cloud and Data Services
Heralds Arrival of Web Middleware
| Source: MuleSoft
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 22, 2009) - MuleSoft, formerly MuleSource, announces
the second beta release of Tcat Server, the enterprise-class
web application server based on Apache Tomcat. This
release of Tcat Server includes iBeans (short for
integration beans), which enable simplified, rapid web application
integration.
As cloud-based applications become commonplace and business-critical,
MuleSoft is the first to create middleware to address the growing need to
develop and manage applications across the datacenter and the cloud. With
the release of Tcat Server and iBeans, MuleSoft has pioneered a new
software category called "Web middleware."
MuleSoft Tcat Server enables IT teams to manage Tomcat instances in the
cloud as well as behind the firewall from a central location, including
administering server groups, provisioning applications, and performing
diagnostics functions. The inclusion of iBeans in this release of TCat
Server enables rapid development of applications that connect seamlessly
with other applications, back-end data sources, and in-the-cloud services.
iBeans are reusable integration components that can be created in minutes
and can help developers tap into the best of the web. Examples of iBeans
already available and in use include Twitter, Gmail, Flickr, and Amazon
EC2.
Ross Mason, CTO and founder of MuleSoft, said: "We created iBeans to
address a huge need among the web application developer community. With
iBeans, developers don't need to wrestle with hand-coding at the API or
protocol level. Instead, Tcat Server and iBeans lets them integrate
applications with external services using a few simple annotations, freeing
them to focus their time on what they do best -- creating rich application
functionality."
MuleSoft's Web middleware brings simple yet powerful infrastructure to the
web, allowing IT teams to more easily build and manage today's connected
applications.
Mark Driver, vice president and research director, Gartner, commented:
"Traditional Java infrastructure stack providers have focused on enabling
robust, transaction-oriented enterprise applications. However, web
developers today are increasingly focused on rapidly delivering
applications with rich user functionality, using technologies such as PHP,
Ruby on Rails, and AJAX. As these web applications increasingly need to
connect with other applications, cloud-based services, and back-end data
sources, there is a gap that needs to be filled, and it makes sense that a
new class of infrastructure would emerge to fill that gap."
