South Bay Business Environmental Coalition Presents Northrop Grumman Two 'Green' Awards for Environmental Sustainability


EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 23, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) is slated to receive two Southern California Environmental Excellence Development (SEED) Awards from the South Bay Business Environmental Coalition during an awards ceremony here on Thursday, Sept. 24.

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector is being honored in the Sustainability Workplace category for making great strides in integrating sustainability into all aspects of its business in the cities of El Segundo and Redondo Beach.

The South Bay Business Environmental Coalition represents both private and public organizations concerned about environmental issues and regulations impacting businesses, communities and educational institutions. Prior SEED award recipients include the city of Manhattan Beach and TreePeople.

Northrop Grumman has made significant "green" inroads including:



 * Recycling -- the El Segundo facility has received 11 consecutive
   Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) awards, and the Space Park
   facility has received eight.
 * Commuter services programs that encourage alternative
   transportation through subsidies, promotions, competitions,
   flexible work schedules and the availability of bike racks,
   lockers and showers for employees.
 * Products that monitor global climate change, including the
   unmanned aircraft system Global Hawk, Earth monitoring satellites
   including Aqua, Aura, KOMPSAT, and ROCSAT, and remote sensing
   instruments such as Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System
   (CERES).
 * Promotion of community outreach events such as e-waste roundups
   on-site and with local cities, annual beach cleanups, tree
   plantings and sponsorship of the state's Science Fair.
