The Wacky and Hilarious World of GAASCRU -- A Peculiar Novel Promises An Exciting Read and An Enjoyable Sports Adventure -- With a Touch of Politics and Even Science Fiction

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Oct. 1, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sports enthusiasts, sci-fi fanatics, and politically-inclined individuals are in for an exciting and enjoyable read as authors James R. Cooley and James B. Jamieson present GAASCRU, a unique novel that relates a wacky and hilarious form of sports, science fiction, and politics readers will cherish.

"Rarely have I been entertained and laughed out loud when reading a book. Perhaps I'm a grouch and not easily tickled but this story delighted me with its vitality and uniqueness."

- Ed Asner

The novel takes readers on a journey to the year 2013 when The Great American Anti-Sports Crusade (GAASCRU), founded by Eldon Bowman, finds itself pitted against MegaMax-Sports-Domes, a multi-billion dollar corporation that helped elect a football hero, senator, and sports fanatic as president on a "Sports Platform," promising a Sports-Dome in every major American city. Consequently, both the newly elected President and Vice-President die of heart attacks. The Speaker of the House, who has suspicions about Sports-Domes intrigues, becomes the "Accidental President." Meanwhile, Mortimer K. Forrester, the titan of the great Northwest who was known all over the world as "The Timber King", agrees to finance GAASCRU, which together with the possible withdrawal of federal support panics MegaMax-Sports-Domes into extreme measures to conceal a certain conspiracy. But, how will their story end?

Dashed with the right blend of zany characters, wit, and wacky scenes, GAASCRU will uncover political conspiracy and hilarious confidence schemes against the backdrop of alien visitations, sports-crazed extraterrestrials, and a psychotic billionaire.

"I liked the parts of this book that reminded me of Donald E. Westlake's Dortmunder gang-bumbling but likable, outside the law, but generally non-violent and quite clever. The story contained a lot of terrific humor and many colorful characters."
