RedSeal Systems Named Finalist in GSN: Government Security News' Homeland Security Awards Competition
RedSeal Network Advisor Recognized as a Top Entrant in Security Compliance, Auditing, Vulnerability Management Solution Category

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - October 8, 2009) - RedSeal Systems, Inc. (www.redseal.net), the
leading provider of security posture management solutions, today announced
that RedSeal Network Advisor has been named by GSN: Government Security
News as a finalist for the Homeland Security Award within the Security
Compliance, Auditing, Vulnerability Management Solution category.
RedSeal Network Advisor is a software solution that comprehensively and
automatically assesses the security posture of a network so organizations
can strengthen their cyber-defenses. Unlike systems that detect attacks
once they occur, RedSeal identifies holes in the security infrastructure
that could be exploited before they are discovered by hackers.
The number of reported cyber attacks on US government computer networks
rose by more than 40 percent in 2008, USA Today reported earlier this year.
DHS recently announced that it will hire as many as 1,000 people as
computer security specialists in an effort to defend government and private
online networks and the US Senate passed a resolution identifying October
as national Cyber Security awareness month.
The complexity and rapid change of cybersecurity systems makes it
impossible for a human to comprehensively identify all the security holes
that could exist throughout an infrastructure. Historically, manual
security assessments have been the only method to assess the security
posture of an organization. Because these assessments sample only parts of
the infrastructure, they cannot find every possible security exposure.
Additionally, with assessments typically performed no more often than on a
quarterly basis, it is often impossible to identify new vulnerabilities
created by weekly changes.
With the ability to continuously gather and analyze the end-to-end
interaction of firewall, router and load balancer configurations, RedSeal
Network Advisor allows an organization to continuously and comprehensively
identify security holes in its infrastructure. The solution also validates
that network security policies are enforced and enables rapid remediation
of unintended exposures. RedSeal delivers the continuous monitoring of
network security controls that is required by the newly updated NIST SP
800-53, enabling federal agencies to both strengthen security and achieve
FISMA compliance.
"RedSeal is honored to be among the handful of applicants to be named a
finalist in this prestigious competition," said Steve Dauber, VP of
Marketing, RedSeal. "We're excited this distinguished panel of judges
recognizes the important role RedSeal's security posture management
software plays in protecting our nation's networks against cyber-attacks."
The GSN Homeland Security Awards finalists were selected by a panel of
objective and independent judges. "We received an extraordinary number of
entries," said Adrian Courtenay, a managing director of World Business
Media, LLC, the owner of GSN: Government Security News. "We have carefully
reviewed each entry and are now very pleased to announce an exceptionally
strong field of finalists."
