FaceTime Adds Squid Proxy Support to Unified Security Gateway to Extend Enterprise Security for Web 2.0 Platforms
FaceTime's USG 3.1 Now Supports Both Squid and Blue Coat Proxy Servers and Includes FaceTime Security Labs' Comprehensive Application Signature Database

BELMONT, CA--(Marketwire - December 2, 2009) - FaceTime Communications (www.facetime.com)
today announced support for the Squid proxy server in its secure Web
gateway,
Unified Security Gateway (USG) v 3.1. This enables organizations using
Squid proxies to manage and control content posted from the corporate
network to blogs, wikis, webmail and social networking sites such as
Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
FaceTime's USG is the first secure Web gateway to combine content
monitoring, management and logging of social networking, instant messaging
and Unified Communications, with URL filtering, malware and Web antivirus
protection. FaceTime launched support for Blue Coat proxy servers in
September 2009. USG also includes a comprehensive application signature
database of more than 4,000 applications of concern to IT managers. Created
by FaceTime's Security Lab, the database is the most extensive available,
and is continually maintained and updated by FaceTime's security research
team, the leading research team dedicated to the collection, analysis,
associated threats and management of real-time and Web 2.0 applications.
Squid is one of the most widely deployed caching proxy servers and supports
a wide range of Web protocols. It is popular partially because it is free,
but also because it is compatible with a number of operating systems and
offers excellent performance. USG 3.1 has the option of either being
integrated with a Web/FTP proxy server, such as Blue Coat or Squid, through
an ICAP-based connector, or deployed in simple pass-by mode -- a plug and
play deployment which requires no change to existing network
configurations.
"We are seeing tremendous growth in Web 2.0 adoption within corporations
and government agencies, along with a growing concern about regulatory
compliance and data leakage," said Nishant Jadhav, director of product
management for FaceTime. "Since a number of networks already have Squid
proxy servers in place, this release will make it even easier to adopt our
USG solution, which will prevent sensitive conversations and data leaking
out over Twitter, Facebook, IM and other channels. IT managers can now plug
USG 3.1 into any network equipped with a free Squid proxy server and
immediately monitor, control and filter Web 2.0 conversations."
Corporations, financial institutions, government agencies, schools, and
other organizations are adopting Web 2.0 platforms for internal
communications and to talk to partners and customers. However, traditional
security solutions do not address the risks associated with these emerging
collaborative applications. USG 3.1 addresses that need by providing
granular control of not only Web sites and applications but also the
content posted to blogs, wikis, webmail and social networking sites such as
Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Such content can be monitored, secured and
logged -- reducing outbound data leakage and enabling corporate policy
standards and legal discovery requirements. It's also invaluable to enable
compliance with industry regulations from groups such as FINRA that are
concerned about sensitive content being posted to social networks.
