The power situation in Norway as of 9 December 2009

Lysaker, 9 December 2009

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Price increase in the Nordic market

Colder weather along with decreased Danish and German wind power production pushed up the Nordic power prices from week 48. The week's average Nordic power prices went up 1-6 øre/kWh. Once more Southern Norway had the lowest weekly price. The average price in Mid and Northern Norway was 32.4 øre/kWh which is 2.9 øre higher than the average price in Southern Norway. Wednesday afternoon the price in Mid and Northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Zeeland where 110.1 øre/kWh.

High demand during these hours and bottle necks towards Southern Norway and no available transmission capacity between Jutland and Sweden may have pressed prices upwards.
