SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - January 15, 2010) - Cisco (
What: On January 19, 2010, Cisco will discuss the rapid growth of video and other media-rich applications on wireless networks and how IT managers can meet user demand for these applications with a media-ready wireless local area network, or WLAN. The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), a Cisco customer, will discuss best practices for deploying video over its Cisco® Unified Wireless Network to bring innovative learning applications to its students.
Media-rich applications are changing the way organizations do business, with studies indicating that video will account for nearly 90 percent of all consumer Internet traffic by 2012. This dramatic growth in multimedia traffic, combined with an increase in Wi-Fi-enabled devices coming onto the network, translates into significant new demands on the wireless infrastructure. As media-rich applications like video are increasingly integrated into the business, users will demand access to these applications wherever they are, on any device, and with the same consistent level of service they've come to expect from their wired network.
In this webcast, Cisco will discuss how the right wireless infrastructure can meet the demands of these next-generation applications. The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) will describe its Cisco Unified Wireless Network deployment with media-ready WLAN capabilities. The network has not only enabled the university to provide its 17,000 students and 3,500 faculty members and staff with traditional voice and data applications, but will now enhance the educational experience of 1,100 deaf and hard-of-hearing students via close-captioned video lectures.
The discussion will highlight the following topics:
- Growth of multimedia applications and the ways that enterprises are integrating them into business processes today
- Delivering video and other media-rich applications over the wireless network with the levels of quality, performance, scale and reliability that users expect
- Cisco VideoStream, an innovative set of features that help ensure the optimal performance of video and multimedia applications over the wireless network
