NKK Switches Announces Ultra-Miniature Two and Three Position Slide Switches
SS Series Ideal for High-Density PCB and SMT Mounting
| Source: NKK Switches
SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - January 27, 2010) - NKK Switches, the world's leading designer
and manufacturer of innovative electromechanical switches, today announced
the availability of the SS Series of ultra-miniature slide switches. The
series' compact dimensions and low profile make it a preferred choice for
designs requiring high-density PCB or SMT mounting.
The series was specifically designed for logic level applications and each
device features NKK's award winning STC (Sliding Twin Crossbar) contact
mechanism. This mechanism provides benefits unavailable in conventional
mechanisms, including smoother positive detent actuation, increased contact
reliability and unparalleled logic level switching reliability. Crisp
actuation positively indicates circuit status.
In addition, the SS Series is configurable with top or side actuation in
single and double poles, and with two and three throw options, permitting
engineers even greater design flexibility when faced with demanding
applications. Low profile and compact dimensions allow for high density
mounting and close stacking on PC boards.
The terminals are insert-molded to lock out flux, solvents and other
contaminants, and the contacts self-clean with each actuation.
Electrical ratings are 0.1A at 30V DC with silver contacts, and 0.4VA at
28V AC/DC with gold contacts. SPDT, SP3T, and DPDT circuit configurations
are available and all circuit options are maintained.
Single pole and double pole models are available with either inch or metric
terminal spacing for standard PC board grid mounting (.100" x .100" or
2.0mm x 2.0mm).
Surface mount versions are available in single pole, double throw and
single pole, three throw options and are packaged 500 pieces per tape/reel.
Tape/reel packaging meets the EIA-481-2 Standard. Alternative tray
packaging is available upon request.
In addition, surface mount models are made with heat resistant resin,
allowing for vapor phase and infrared reflow soldering which translates to
time and labor savings. The double molded thermoset base and thermoplastic
housing for through-hole models are rated at are rated UL 94V-0 for
flammability and prevent loosening of terminals due to high soldering
temperatures. Surface mount models also feature gull wing terminals, which
ensure mechanical stability and simplify solder joint inspection.
A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches
offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated,
process sealed, miniature, specialty, surface mount and programmable
switches. NKK manufactures more than 3.5 million toggle, rocker,
pushbutton, slide, rotary, DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches, each of
which can be used as the foundation of a customized design. All switches
are designed and manufactured to provide the quality and dependability that
has made NKK the benchmark for reliability for over half a century.
NKK continues to lead the industry in responding to the needs of the
marketplace with innovation, high reliability, customization and a
commitment to excellence. The company provides a full suite of
customization solutions that include: design, programming, printing and
support. Downloadable 3D CAD models of the company's switches are
available, allowing design engineers to quickly integrate complex models
into their designs at no charge. NKK maintains a complete network of
qualified representatives and distributors through the United States,
Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.
