OPNET Launches Service to Reduce Network Vulnerabilities

New Sentinel Advisory Service Supports Proactive Prevention of Network Configuration-Related Outages, Performance Problems and Security Gaps

BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 28, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:OPNT), a leading provider of solutions for managing applications and networks, today announced it has launched the Sentinel Advisory Service, a new offering that will be provided at no additional charge to users of OPNET’s IT Sentinel® and SP Sentinel® (Sentinel) solutions with Premium Maintenance coverage. The offering was launched with the recent release of Sentinel version 16.0.

Sentinel ensures network availability and security by reducing configuration errors, a common source of serious operational issues. Sentinel automatically performs regular audits of the network configuration, leveraging the industry’s most comprehensive rule suites and unique analysis of device relationships to diagnose many types of issues that traditional network audit solutions cannot detect. Sentinel Advisory Service enhances proactive prevention of operational and security problems with automatic updates to Sentinel’s rule suites in response to alerts from leading network vendors, including PSIRT advisories from Cisco Systems.

“The Sentinel Advisory Service represents a simple, pragmatic approach for our customers to ensure timely intervention when network vulnerabilities become known,” stated Pradeep Singh, Senior Vice President of Engineering, OPNET Technologies. “With Sentinel, they are already able to prevent problems by automatically checking their networks on a daily basis. The Sentinel Advisory Service ensures that no time will be lost before securing their networks against new threats.”

Sentinel 16.0 also includes new reports that check the network against benchmarks established by the Center for Internet Security (CIS). CIS is a not-for-profit organization that helps enterprises reduce the risk of business and e-commerce disruptions resulting from inadequate technical security controls, and provides enterprises with resources for measuring information security status and making rational security investment decisions. OPNET was awarded CIS Security Software Certification for Sentinel in 2009.
